January Recap: Six Super Charts to Service Your Senses

Chart 1: Fear and greed never lies
The fear/greed index remains elevated, with clusters similar to February-May 2024.
Your social media feed or telegram group may have turned bearish, but the overall market is not.
Chart 2: It’s the ETFs, stupid!
Wall Street ETFs continue to see huge swings in net inflows and outflows. This chart comes from the January 14, 2025 update, but it’s the same type of activity you’ll see if you pull up today’s chart.
These swings can only come from funds and big entities using the ETFs to hedge other market positions. For example, long the ETF, short the derivative contract. Things like that.
Once we get back into that historical range of +-$50 million, we can start to make sense of things.
Until then, I wouldn't read anything into these inflows and outflows. Put it in the same mental category as the short and long liquidations—a sign of the times, nothing more than that.
Chart 3: The US matters a lot
US-based entities have made up the biggest portion of crypto in years, to levels last seen when Celsius collapsed.
As such, it’s reasonable to pay the most attention to US-centric data. What happens to the US matters more for crypto than it has in years.
