Last week, the US government got approval to dump $6 billion worth of Bitcoin.

On Friday, Trump launched a memecoin.

Funny thing. Some people got scared about the US government dumping its crypto on the market. Those same people got happy about Trump dumping his crypto on the market.

Impeccable timing, innit? Launch after the close of business on the Friday before a US federal holiday to leave no time for the SEC to file charges before your inauguration.

Smart. You can’t go bankrupt from memecoins—especially when you own 85% of the supply and your team already cashed out $500 million!

To be fair, this is how the vast majority of altcoins work. Make sure to factor the dumping into your investment calculus. I do this for my altcoin reports.

Or, do what most people do—trade them so you don’t have to worry about it.

I’ll offer my thoughts in next week’s rundown. First, I’d like to hear yours!

After selecting your option, you'll get a chance to explain why. Or, you can comment below.

Everybody talks about institutions and ETF flows. I joke about Aunt Sally, Uncle Morton, and the Pickleball crew. We get hyped up about MicroStrategy and other legacy entities buying crypto.

Are we simply making assumptions based on intuition and personal experiences, or is this transition from smart money to the general public actually happening?

We can get some insights from the people who facilitate this transition: investment advisors.

In Crypto is Macro Now, Noelle Acheson summarized the Bitwise Asset Manager Survey. That survey shows a drop in concerns and a rise in adoption, confirming the transition is indeed happening.

No surprise, but it's nice to have some confirmation of what we already knew.

Some other nuggets:

  • 55% of investment advisors own Bitcoin—but only 22% allocated crypto to their clients’ accounts. Of those 22%, most said they will likely increase their crypto weighting this year.

  • 70% of their clients own crypto outside of their managed accounts.

  • The bulk of adviser interest is in ETFs, not actual crypto.

In the January monthly issue, I asked where we’re going to get all this new money to send Bitcoin to $288,000 in October 2025. A lot has to fall into place and the macro needs to cooperate, but if you're looking for a source of new money to get us there, this seems promising.

Do you want to know who and what will define Trump’s crypto agenda?

VCs.

For $2,500, you could have joined them at their inauguration crypto ball.

I would've gone, but they said it was a black-tie affair and I don't like tuxedos. Besides, I needed to drop my daughter off at a “social function,” as the kids call it nowadays.

My friend said he’d rather put that money into crypto, which seems like a better use for people like us.

BUT I DIGRESS.
